My current fascination is what I call 'transitional Cree culture', the place where Cree culture meets the onrush of millennial technology. I explore this fascination in performance and computer-based artworks. Using digital technologies I attempt to locate and query this meeting place, however fleeting. My work is a temporary roadmap. These maps are signposts of the moment, which I create to share.
I have been performing professionally since 1982, and began creating performance pieces in 1988. The links to the right showcase pieces made since 1993, with the most recent works at the top.
Over the last ten years my work has focused largely on two topics, "traditional" First Nations culture and technology. My practice investigates these topics both individually and queries the intersection of these two seemingly disparate phenomena.
My work typically employs innovative digital technologies, video projection and live music. Drummer/singer Anthony Favel has appeared in many of my performances, and over the last two years I have been working with cellist cris derksen.
The digital drum technology used in "Horse" is currently under further development/refinement. The resulting apparatus will be featured in a new performance set to debut in 2008.
The performances "Shoot The Indian", "Horse" and "Elegy" are currently available for touring.
