Blanket Conspiracy Theory
Today I heard a man on a CBC radio call in show claim that the World Health Organization under the direction of the CIA infected Africans with the AIDS virus. They cut him off before he could get to the part where it was then introduced to Haiti for further testing, and when found effective used as a weapon to destroy the gay and intravenous drug user population of the U.S.A. as part of an ultra right-wing agenda.
That is crazy. It's like suggesting the country that started the 'War on Drugs' would import cocaine into the States as a way to finance some sleazy illicit war in Central America while also providing a means to destabilize increasingly rebellious inner city black communities, or bring heroin in from the Golden Triangle to finance an illegal war in Laos and Cambodia while also providing a means to destabilize increasingly rebellious inner city black communities. It's preposterous. You may as well suggest that AIDS was introduced to needle users to get rid of heroin addicts because they demand a drug the CIA doesn't sell anymore 'cuz the indians, er, I mean the Vietnamese won the battle for Fort Apache in 1975. Nuts! Although as an aside it is interesting to note that during the Vietnam war U.S. troops referred to any non U.S. held territory as "Indian country".
No, that AIDS conspiracy theory is wack. It's like saying the U.S. government deliberately gave hostile Indians smallpox infected blankets because it was easier than defeating them militarily. That would be genocide!
AIDS is like crack. Until it starts to affect the straight white middle class the state is only too happy to let it spread. But please, don't call it genocide. Call it laissez - faire eugenics.
